About the event

Mala (garland) is a string of 108 prayer beads used for spiritual practices and traditions of Buddhism and Hinduism. Traditionally, mala beads are used as a counting tool for the recitation of sacred words— Mantras—in meditation. Today, mala are worn by many yogis as jewelry or as a sacred and devotional statement.

Discover the magic of the mala! Create your own wooden beaded mala and participate in a yoga practice to honor this sacred discipline.

In this workshop you will learn the history, symbology, and meaning of the 108 beads by:

• Creating your own 108 wooden beaded mala

• Learning how to hold the mala and count the beads.

• Embracing the energetics and healing qualities of chanting with malas.

• Learning how to maintain and clean your malas.

This one-night program includes discussion, short yoga practice with group chant, and the cost of creating an authentic mala. All levels are welcome and no prior experience with mantra is necessary.
